Thanks Kurt and Jesse for this healing interview.

  2. kurt says:

    Thanks Reed…

  3. Bill says:

Thanks. A little sunshine goes a long way.

  4. kurt says:

@Bill That’s what i love about our movement. Could you imagine the McCain staff doing this type interview…

  5. Michael says:

Ron has not read much Internet commenting, has he?! I have noticed there is a small group that do not know how to communicate without verbal abuse and childish behavior! I guess, every group will have people like this!

  6. treg says:

“He said he opposed Undeclared War” — AS IF THAT IS WHAT DEFINES US.

Earth to Jesse Benton — We are NOT FOR DECLARED wars either. You’ve got to be kidding giving this neoconservative money.

So, just answer the questionnaire the “right way” and you fools will give him money?

    Oh boy…

  7. treg says:

Ok, so YOU did not give this neocon money.

Then the LIBERTY survey sounds weak on Foreign Policy. We are about NON intervention. Ok, I will google the survey.

  8. eric says:

The issue is UNJUST WAR, NOT “UNDECLARED” WAR, Jesse! Why are you attempting to manipulate the landscape of understanding?

Further, i don’t trust the answers of a candidate on a survey. That is not how I expect candidates to be chosen. I expect more thorough and responsible research. Until then, you add no value, as I can research the candidates on my own and perform a much more thorough job than answers to a simple survey.

  9. Neil says:

Well I am glad this is finally posted! This is very healing… and helpful..

  10. Liberty101 says:

There have been times, in the course of history, when war has been neccesary. Take, for example, the Revolution. The reason wars must be declaired is to make certain we only enter war when absolutly neccessary. No war we are in now fits that description, however, the survey has merit.

More importantly, who cares what a candidate thinks about war if he also supports measures to end the Federal Reserve? A beautiful thing happens when you remove the Central Bank from the equasion: The government runs out of money to fund empire, and the wars stop. If we help people get elected who will take steps to stop the printing press, then their neocon views become moot in the face of having to tax to pay for empire.

  11. kurt says:

    @Neil

    Thanks!

  12. Jeremy Trudell says:

I’m the original Ron Paul Meetup organizer in Denver.

Ken Buck is a career long parasite and in no way represents the Denver C4L – period.

The money was not raised through a grassroots effort at all. No one in my group knew anything about Ken Buck, and no one supports him. The only person that seems to support Ken Buck is our self appointed State Coordinator, who failed to inform me at all about attaching our name to the NeoCon Ken Buck.

I’m looking into where this $350,000 really came from.

  13. kurt says:

    @Liberty101

imho The only act that congress and the executive branch should take at this time is Letters of Marque and Reprisal which Ron Paul introduced Oct. 11, 2001. Would like to get more attention on this but for some reason it hasn’t been that visible.

Great point about the Fed Money Machine shutting down the overseas insanity…(domestic insanity too)

“Just Come Home” Ron Paul Republican Presidential Debate

  14. [...] Says Ron’s grandson-in-law, Jesse Benton, in answer to that question: If the answer had to be made today, it would be No. But he is considering it, very strongly, and there is a decent likelihood that he will. A lot of it depends on things going on in his personal life, and also what’s going on in the country. So everybody out there that wants him to run, and I am one of them, I encourage them to politely but energetically let him know that you would really like to see it happen. Because I think between the organization that Campaign for Liberty’s put together,  the other liberty groups out there, and the growing relevance of our message, our liberty message, I think we could really make tremendous inroads and be a tremendous player in this race. I think it could be twofold. First of all, I think that this time around, Ron would actually be a serious player, to win, and second of all, I think that it would be a tremendous way to push this message. We were activists for Ron, put on a county wide event, taught classes, sold his books, got out the vote, etc, .We still have not recovered financially from our investment to his campaign.
We were happy to do it all.
We got a lot of people to come along with us.
However, it will be hard convincing those folks to get on board again because Ron dropped out before the finish.
We’ll need to show them convincing proof he’ll finish the race this time and not leave so many that took the risk to support him hanging.
Also, we’ve had comments that C4L has gone commercial and spend a lot on slick ads so being transparent will help for future runs.

  16. Danny says:

“…because Ron dropped out before the finish. We’ll need to show them convincing proof he’ll finish the race this time and not leave so many that took the risk to support him hanging.”

@Farmermary, what are you talking about? Ron never conceded during the primaries. DId you expect Ron to somehow not win the Republican primary but still run as a Republican during the general election? Only delusional Paulians would think anything of that sort.

  17. Mel says:

It’s tough. We are in this battle of our life and for our life, for the lives of our children and for our very species in fact and then discover that we have been used. It will take some time to get past it. The greatest sin is these people losing touch with the “bottom up”; they didn’t feel it necessary let us in on what was going on. Let’s hope they see that we are watching and that their actions will be scrutinized.
WE are the people, the bloggers and loggers, and car mechanics and unemployed construction workers, the waiters at the Greasy Spoon, the retired and just tired, the hopeless and hapless. We are the energy. We are suspicious of organizations, of governments and sadly of one another. They won’t pull that crap again. Get a clue folks.

  18. Elena Campbell says:

Hi all: I am quite active in Colorado as GOP Secretary for a small county here. I’m a Ron Paul supporter of many years, and have made numerous donations to Campaign for Liberty, one of the most worthy groups in our nation. I’m apalled by the hooplah over the commercial. Yes, we could have been better informed on the front end, and yes, the commercial could have been more succinct, but there are two important points to be made. First, Ken Buck did take the survey and did score quite well. This is to be commended, even if the war issue is a glaring shortcoming. Remember though, as one writer in this blog already notes, our problems all but vanish if we rid ourselves of the corrupt monetary system which funds the unnecessary wars. Ken Buck is on board with scrutinizing the Fed. Who has studied his opponents in this race? Secondly, the “self-appointed” coordinator for this State is one of the hardest working, most sincere, most principled people I’ve ever had the priviledge of knowing. That she is taking such heat for this while we have so many bigger fish to fry is disheartening. We’re all working in this system to the best of our understanding and abilities. Will we make mistakes? You bettcha. Is constructive criticism valued? Absolutely. Is tongue lashing either constructive or helpful? Unequivacally not. Please, let us move on. Get back on board to reel in the bigger fish. I’m hungry for a fish fry.

  19. Jeremy Dahl says:

Do not forget that Benton is a Public Relations (propaganda) expert and has intimate and biased ties to the organization.

  20. Ike Hall says:

Thanks for the great interview, Kurt. As a C4L state coordinator myself, I was bothered by the ad. It was entirely too complimentary of the candidate, no matter HOW close he is on our issues. I think an ad like that would have been inappropriate in support of Ron Paul! However, I’m glad to see that their response has been positive and the national staff seems to have learned from the experience. I’m especially pleased that Jesse Benton has come clean with the backstory, so I don’t have to explain it again!

  21. kurt says:

    @Ike Hall

Thanks Ike. Keep up the fight for Freedom and Liberty!

  22. Bruce says:

    Not good enough.

Campaign for Liberty needs to be 100% on the side of supporting good candidates and when we can no longer trust you then all faith in C4L is lost.

Sorry but Blaming Colorado did in no way raise $300 thousand Dollars. That is total BS and you know it and so we we know it!

The pressure now needs to be on John Tate and he needs to step down form this organization and be replaced with someone who can really lead.

I will not support C4L till changes are made.

  23. Bandito says:

Great interview Kurt. It was good to hear that the CFL can identify and learn from their mistakes and is willing to come clean on the issue. I think their idea of a candidate survey is good one, and the fact that various politican candidates are vying to take it just goes to show how CFL has grown. I like Jesse’s answer in that they should have changed to commercial to how well the candidate scored and how they recommend all other candidates take the survey, thus not really endorsing him but pointing out CFL’s cause instead.

  24. Eric says:

I listened to this thinking it would reveal more details about how the ad came about than what we had been given in the other official statements by CFL leaders. I’m disappointed that it did not.

Is this really all we’re going to get? Repetition of the same vague explanations?

We still don’t know the crucial points. What was the agenda of that handful of donors who donated $350k earmarked for the ad? Certainly they were interested in helping win votes for Ken Buck and not just to further the CFL surveys. But if that is the case, then is the fact that the ad itself sounded so much like a Ken Buck endorsement just some poor execution on the part of CFL that also just happened to play so conveniently into the intent of those donors? Or is it the case that the CFL either handed over control of production of the ad to those donors, or otherwise deliberately allowed itself to be bent to their wishes?

This latter hypothesis seems much more plausible than the former. If it is the case that the CFL allowed itself to be used in such a way, the mea culpas given to us so far fall short of facing up to just how serious of a problem this is. But if it is not the case, then why does the CFL continue to avoid giving a full enough explanation to put that charge to rest?

  25. Matthew says:

This was great to hear. Thanks for the interview and the apology.
