It's official: U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton is NOT an Anthroconservative. Today, she placed an injunction on the implementation of the most important parts of Arizona's new anti-illegal immigration law. Specifically, until the courts review the law in more detail, Arizona cannot legally require police officers to ask suspected illegal immigrants about their immigration status, nor can it require legal immigrants to carry proof of their status. Neither can illegal immigrants be arrested simply for being illegal. The chief justification for this ruling was the idea that �Requiring Arizona law enforcement officials and agencies to determine the immigration status of every person who is arrested burdens lawfully-present aliens because their liberty will be restricted while their status is checked.� In other words, some people who are not illegal immigrants could be potentially inconvenienced by the law, and thus it cannot go into effect. Bolton also expressed sympathy for federal authorities, which could be swamped by task of processing the illegal aliens caught up in the Arizona dragnet. After all, we could not possibly ask of the federal government that it enforce its own laws � doing so would be a tiresome chore...
